Duce Ferrante threw a couple of touchdown passes and Scott Hertler broke one 80 yards for a TD to lead the Branham frosh-soph football team to a thrilling 21-14 win over Leland last Saturday.

Hertler scored in the first half and Ferrante tossed to Jason Whitcomb for a touchdown to help the Bruins move into a 14-14 tie with the Chargers in the second half.

Branham broke the tie when Ferrante hit Logan Jackson in the corner of the endzone for what proved to be the game-winning score in the final period.

Branham coach Mario Busalacchi praised his offense for a solid showing in the win.

"We had some real fine runs," said the coach, singling out Jackson and citing the efforts of center Danny Allfrey, guards Jason Catalano and tackles Jordan Ashapour and Eric Findley in the offensive line.

He added the Danny Chilcott made "some real fine catches."

Playing well defensively for the Bruins were inside linebackers Kyle Dryer and Danny Bostic and defensive back Scotty DeStefano, who picked off a pass in the win.

A.J. Deimling scored both touchdowns for Leland in the game, one on a 1-yard run set up by his own 60-yard run. Sophomore quarterback Kyle Walker led the Leland offensive attack in the game.

Branham moved up to the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League this fall after winning the West Valley Division title last year. The Bruins are 3-2-1 for the year and 1-1 in division play. Their only loss was to Westmont.
