Chargers win
The Almaden Chargers rolled to a 26-6 midget win over Sunnyvale last Sunday in Pop Warner Football play at Leland. The win was the third straight for the Chargers, who had opened the year with four losses.
"It was a big team victory," said head coach Jeff Martarano. "It's been good, because just a few weeks ago we changed our whole offense."
The change certainly has been good for the Almaden club. The current win streak has put the Chargers in position for a possible playoff spot.
"We started out 0-4 and we had to win four in a row to make the playoffs," said Martarano. "We've won three."
The third win came Sunday over Sunnyvale. Touchdowns by John Silva, Kevin Krail, Brian Walsh and Jeremy Hull sparked Alamden to the victory. Linebacker Kalani Markle and tackle Tony Santini led the defense.
The Chargers will try to make it four straight and clinch that playoff berth when they head to Pittsburg High School on Oct. 26 to face East County at 4 p.m.
