Yea, Chargers: The Leland High School varsity cheerleading squad, which includes (from left) Alex Froelich, Mandy Demetrus, Kim Young, Stephanie Selness, Christine Choi and Allegra Mascovich, will direct homecoming activities this weekend.
Homecoming activities at Leland High
Having chosen a "Sunshine Dreams" theme for this year's events, members of the Leland spirit squad, along with their parents and other volunteers, will transform the school cafeteria into a montage of California landmarks. Students can take a quick "tour" of the state by viewing models of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Hollywood sign and Disneyland. The latter locale is where the spirit squad won the 2003 national cheer championships.

Homecoming weekend kicks off Friday night, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. with a rally in the gym, where members of both the spirit squad and the football team will perform skits. Leland's band and drill team will provide musical entertainment. Seniors from these four groups will be presented to the crowd along with their parents.

Leland's football teams will take on Prospect High School in the annual homecoming games the next day, Saturday, Nov. 8. The junior varsity team will kick off at 10:30 a.m., and the varsity team will take the field at 1:15 p.m. Sandwiched between the two games is the Homecoming Parade, featuring floats decorated by each class at Leland. Local elementary and middle school groups will also participate, as will Leland's spirit squad, band and drill team.
