The Leland girls volleyball team continued their winning ways last week by beating Santa Teresa and Willow Glen to remain undefeated in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. The Chargers improved to 12-0 in division play and 23-3 overall.
Leland crunched Santa Teresa in three straight games 29-27, 25-13, 25-20. Briana Scala led the way with 13 kills.
The Chargers closed out their home season by hosting Willow Glen last Thursday. The seniors were honored before the match and then Leland went out and defeated the Rams 23-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-8. Scala, a senior, closed out her home play in fine style, leading the Chargers with 26 kills.
The Chargers' sights are set on finishing the regular season strong as they look towards the upcoming Central Coast Section playoffs. The final two matches will be on the road against Piedmont Hills (8-4 and in third place in the division) and Branham (10-2 and in second). The Chargers need to win at least one of the matches to clinch the division championship.
Branham's girls volleyball team kept its slim championship hopes alive last week with two victories of its own, improving to 10-2 in division and 16-10 overall. The Bruins are chasing Leland in the race for the title.
Early in the week, Branham slipped by Independence 25-21, 15-25, 25-22, 25-14. Junior Ashley Madrigal made sure of the win with 15 kills.
