The high school baseball campaign is still a few months away, and Leland's Darren Gemoll is still too busy playing football to think much about the coming season.
But Gemoll certainly had some time in recent weeks to think about his baseball future, and it looks promising indeed.
Gemoll has committed to Stanford University, accepting an offer from coach Mark Marquess last week to play his college baseball for the Cardinal.
"We're real excited about it," said Gary Gemoll, Darren's father. "We're all really pumped."
The youngest of the three Gemoll boys will continue a family tradition by playing major college baseball. Justin Gemoll played at USC and is now in the Kansas City Royals organization, and Brandon Gemoll played at Fresno State and is now in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
Darren came up through the Almaden Little League and played in Almaden's senior league before moving on to play in the Northern California Baseball program. He started out at Bellarmine before transferring to Leland.
Gary Gemoll still serves on the board of the Almaden Little League.
