Pioneer launches White Ribbon Week
Students at Pioneer High School have launched a campaign to increase their peers' awareness of violence against women. In conjunction with the White Ribbon Campaign—an international effort based in Canada—students in Pioneer's leadership class conducted research on the subject and came up with some disturbing data, stating that one in three girls in the United States will be sexually assaulted by someone they know before they leave high school.
During White Ribbon Week, Pioneer students will see posters on campus and hear announcements in the school's daily bulletins that outline the statistics uncovered by the leadership class. The class also purchased white ribbons to hand out to their fellow students, who will be asked to wear them from Nov. 25, the International Day for the Eradication of Violence Against Women, through Dec. 6, Canada's National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

Remodeling meeting
Nov. 20 at Dartmouth
Dartmouth Middle School is holding a Nov. 20 meeting to address parents' concerns about the campus' pending remodel. The meeting, slated for 7 p.m. in Dartmouth's cafeteria, will feature presentations by Terry Macias, director of bond funds for the Union School District; Charles Napper, manager of Kitchell Construction; and David Ritchey and Mark Finney of AEDIS Architecture. Presenters will conduct a general question-and-answer session on the remodel and address the concerns of Dartmouth's Home and School Club, such as whether plans call for new classrooms to be built to replace existing portables, for the quad area to be updated and for the parking lot to be repaved.
