Ramon to state

Alex Ramon of Leland, who finished 12th at the Central Coast Section Division II cross country finals, will compete in the state championships set for Nov. 29 at Woodward Park in Fresno. The senior ran 16:39 on the 2.95-mile course at Crystal Springs in Belmont in the CCS meet.

Almaden LL sign-ups

The Almaden Little League will hold sign-ups for the 2004 season for players ages 5­18 on Dec. 8, 6­8 p.m., at Amatos (previously Quick Silver Pizza) in Albertson's shopping center.

Players must live in the 95120 or 95042 Zip Code and provide proof of residency. New players must provide an original birth certificate.

Strikkers softball

The Strikkers will hold girls fastpitch softball tryouts at Oak Grove High School, 285 Blossom Hill Road in San Jose--12 and under, Dec. 7 and 14; 14 and under, Dec. 6; 16 and under, Dec. 7; and 18 and under, Dec. 6 and 7.

The teams will play tournaments throughout the state and also in Colorado this summer.

Baseball camp

It's the final month of the regular season for high school football teams, so it's about time to start thinking about ... baseball?

Well, it is in Los Gatos, at least for players ages 6­16.

America's Baseball Camps, spearheaded by former Los Gatos star Ben Boulware, will return to Los Gatos High School on Nov. 29 and 30. The camp will feature a 9 a.m.­12:30 p.m. session on Nov. 29 and a noon­3 p.m. session on Nov. 30 for players ages 6­9. Players ages 10­16 will attend from noon­3 p.m. on Nov. 29 and 3­6 p.m. on Nov. 30.

The cost is $125 per player, and players will receive 6 1/2 hours of instruction focusing on the fundamentals of the game. Included will be skill competitions, games, and prizes. Players will also receive an America's Baseball Camp T-shirt.
