The Association of Fundraising Professionals Silicon Valley awarded the Distinguished Volunteer Award to Almaden residents William Del Biaggio Jr. and his son Boots Del Biaggio III on Nov. 20 at a luncheon at the Santa Clara Marriott Hotel.
The Del Biaggio family was nominated by Holy Spirit School for their outstanding volunteerism and fundraising during the school's Capital Campaign for start-up construction costs to build the school in fall 2000, said Eileen Beck, principal of Holy Spirit School.
More than 1,000 community leaders and attendees paid tribute to Silicon Valley's philanthropic, with a reception for the honorees and a noon luncheon and awards program.
"Aside from being very successful business people, Bill Sr. works tirelessly on behalf of many nonprofits, such as serving as a board member of Via Rehabilitation Services, Guadalupe River Park project, Downtown Rotary Club of San Jose, O'Connor Hospital, and the East Community Resource Center, to name a few," Beck said. "Boots is also very active in the community and sits on the boards of several nonprofits, including the Technology Museum of San Jose, the Bellarmine Board of Regents, and the Santa Clara County Healthy Kids Program."
"We are very proud that the Del Biaggios have taken the interest, time and money to invest in Holy Spirit School," Beck added. "They understand that we, as a new school, are beginning a fine tradition of providing a good educational foundation where students can achieve in an environment that is morally and spiritually rich."
