There was no water polo team better than Leland in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League this fall, and there was no player in the division better than senior Zac Monsees.
At least, that was the consensus of the league's coaches when they got together recently to select their 2003 all-league team.
Monsees, who broke his own single-season scoring record at Leland this year, was named the league's Most Valuable Player after leading the Chargers to a perfect record in the regular league season and league playoffs.
Monsees was joined on the all-league special honors list by teammate Mike Walters, who was named the Mt. Hamilton Senior of the Year, and by his father, Mike Monsees, who was picked the Coach of the Year.
Senior goalkeeper Ryan Rodrigues and senior 2-meter man Nick Beene were Leland players named to the all-league first team, and seniors Trevor Foote and Steven Hoang won all-league second team utility spots.

Stephanie Kirby of Independence was picked the league's Senior of the Year and Juliet Moss of Mt. Pleasant was the Junior of the Year, but the rest of the league's special awards went to Leland.
