Airport bids tossed Ceremonial groundbreaking Community centers
Four contractors left city council chambers empty-handed Tuesday after the council voted 8-3 to throw out all bids for the lucrative $16 million airport northern concourse excavation project.  More As shovels were readied for a symbolic ceremonial groundbreaking celebrating the start of reconstruction on a joint library and community center, the diggers may also have been symbolically burying the geographical name of the current buildings.  More Women and children, one girl as young as 7, streamed into the council chambers May 18 during the first public budget hearing to beg the San Jose City Council not to close their community centers.  More
