The Almaden Valley Athletic Club is running for hospice.
AVAC will hold the Celebration of Life Fundraising Initiative run on Nov. 12, 9 a.m., at Almaden Lake Park to benefit Hospice of the Valley. November is the National Hospice Month and AVAC will be holding a series of events with all the proceeds going to Hospice of the Valley, a non-profit organization that offers care to people with terminal illnesses. AVAC is a big part of Hospice of the Valley, having raised more than $22,000 last year. The club hopes to break the $30,000 barrier this year.
San Jose City Councilwoman Nancy Pyle will be serving as the honorary chairwoman for Celebration of Life.
This event features a 5K and 10K walk or run is open to competitors of all ages. There will be door prizes, refreshments, live entertainment and awards for the top finishers.
"AVAC's mission is to increase awareness of healthy lifestyles at all ages by promoting physical fitness and mental well-being while continually giving back to the community," said AVAC owner Joe Shank in a press release. "We're proud to continue our relationship with Hospice of the Valley. Many of our club members and staff have been touched by their services, so it is only natural that they benefit from our fundraising efforts."
The registration fee is $20 for those ages 15 and over and $15 for children. Prices rise $5 after Nov. 8. For more information, visit www.active.com, click on "Individual Sports" and type in "AVAC Family Fun Run."
AVAC has been nominated by Hospice of the Valley to receive a Distinguished Fundraiser Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals Silicon Valley Chapter. AVAC will accept the award on Nov. 4 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose.
