Michaelis leads Leigh to two league wins

Max Michaelis put together back-to-back two-hit games last week to help the Leigh baseball team to back-to-back victories in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.
The Longhorns two-timed Leland 10-6 and 11-1 in consecutive league games to hold onto their division lead. Leigh boasts an 11-1 league record to sit a game ahead of Live Oak in the Mt. Hamilton standings. The two clubs look ahead to a key May 2 game at Leigh that could decide the league championship.
The Longhorns are 16-4-1 for the year as they take on Westmont twice this week. Leigh will visit the Warriors on April 18, 3:30 p.m.
The Longhorns downed the Chargers 11-1 last Friday. Michaelis had two hits to drive in two runs in the win, and Tyler Christian knocked two hits, including a double, and drove in two. Nick Jones and Travis Velo each ripped a pair of hits, scored twice and drove in one each, and Steve Amaral blasted two hits and scored twice.
Will Boring scored the lone run for Leland in the game.
Michaelis had two hits, drove in three runs and scored one in the 10-6 win over Leland earlier in the week. Ryan Pitman belted two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs and scored three times.
Nate Jones had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run for the Chargers.
Leland dropped to 4-7-1 in the Mt. Hamilton Division and to 10-9-1 overall with the two losses. The Chargers will host Piedmont Hills on April 18 at 3:30 p.m.
It was a two-win week for Pioneer. The Mustangs bested Santa Teresa 4-3 on April 11 and 6-4 on April 9.
On Friday, the Mustangs took the win in the top of the seventh after trailing the entire game. Don Medlinger got the win on the mound with a complete game, while Michael Boudinot smacked two triples and scored twice and Greg Schwartz drove in the game-winning run.
On Wednesday it was Justin Souza throwing the complete game for Pioneer and adding a win to his stats. Souza also had a great day at the plate, belting out two doubles and scoring twice.
The wins bring Pioneer to 5-7 in the Mt. Hamilton Division and to 8-8 overall. The Mustangs will head to Branham on April 18 for a 3:30 p.m. game.
The Bruins defeated Fremont 12-2 on April 11 in a non-league game. Sam Whittemore belted out two doubles and scored three times in the win, while Kevin Wallace ripped a double and a single, drove in two and scored a run. Chris Mendoza smacked two hits, drove in one and scored one; Kyle Cool knocked two hits, had two RBIs and scored; and Jason Ostrander belted out a triple, drove in one and scored in the win.
The win brings the Bruins to 6-14 overall this year.
Lincoln's baseball team split with Sobrato last week, winning 5-1 on April 11 but falling 6-2 on April 9.
The Lions' Kris Heredia came through with a complete game win on Friday while Nick Demartini knocked a hit and drove in two runs.
On Wednesday Nathan Leon smacked a hit and drove in one.
Splitting last week left Lincoln 7-5 in the Santa Teresa Division and 9-5 overall.
Lincoln will host Willow Glen on April 18 at 3:30 p.m.
The Rams fell twice last week to Mt. Pleasant. On April 11, the Rams lost 5-3 and on April 9 dropped one 8-2.
On Friday Nathan Kadlecek smashed a homer and a single to drive in two runs in the loss, while on Wednesday it was Anthony Gotelli who knocked two hits for the Rams.
The losses dropped Willow Glen to 6-6 in the Santa Teresa Division and to 10-10 overall.
