    Galant Fourth

Del Mar sophomore Jerry Galant nailed a fourth-place finish at 215 pounds at the Central Coast Section wrestling finals last Saturday night at Independence.

Galant's performance sparked the Dons to a 21st-place finish in the team standings. Gunderson was 20th with 45 points and Del Mar was close behind at 41.

Galant opened the CCS tournament with an impressive 15-second pin, then won by fall with five seconds left to wrestle against Lick's Gerardo Martinez in his next match.

The Del Mar soph beat David Puder of Live Oak 7-2 before losing a tough 4-2 nod to eventual champion Apollo Johnson of Oak Grove.

He fought back for a 4-2 win over Carlos Rosario of Bellarmine, but lost his third-place match 3-0 to Drew Brown of St. Francis.

The win over Rosario was an important one for Galant, clinching him a place in the state tournament March 2-3 at the University of the Pacific in Stockton.
