City prepares to celebrate Irish festival, Campbell's anniversary

    By Michelle C. Crowe

In case anyone didn't get the tongue-in-cheek hint in last week's headline (healthy signs) about the new tenant set to occupy the entire 40,000-square-foot Legacy Partners building that formerly housed Silicon Entertainment, the new occupant is San Mateo Health Authority.

That move may signal a new trend in the Winchester Boulevard/E. Sunnyoaks/Dell Avenue/Division Street industrial area. Managed-care pioneer Kaiser Permanente also has a facility nearby. The group is poised to begin moving into the new site in early April.

Goodbye to This 'N That Bargains 'N Closeouts, formerly located at 2521 Winchester Blvd., in the Safeway Shopping Center. No word yet on a new tenant. Fortunately, stand-by Six Star, in the same center, remains available for die-hard shoppers seeking a bargain fix, particularly for holiday decorations.

Speaking of which--aye, 'tis almost time for the annual wearin' of the green. The Downtown Campbell Business Association invites one and all to its annual St. Patrick's Day Festival Sunday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Besides the beer, provided by Stoddard's Brewhouse & Eatery, festival goers can enjoy arts and crafts, children's activities, music, entertainment and, of course, delicious food from local restaurants, such as Mio Vicino. As with most Campbell celebrations, this one is a family affair.

As Campbell celebrates its silver anniversary of incorporation by turning 50 this month, a series of events will mark the milestone. The Campbell City Council will formally make a proclamation on March 19 and display historical photos.

The Campbell Chamber of Commerce holds its citizen of the year ceremony in conjunction with the anniversary annually; this year it will be on March 23 at Orchard City Hall in the Campbell Community Center.

A family event showcasing Campbell's history, complete with the first professionally made video of it, is set for 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, also at Orchard City Hall.

Finally, a banquet at Stoddard's, located at 200 E. Campbell Ave., will be held on the actual anniversary date, March 28.
