Bunnies & Bonnets parade, egg hunt

The Kiwanis Club of Campbell and Kirkwood Plaza are cosponsoring the Spring Eggstravaganza at the Campbell Community Center Athletic Fields March 30 at 9:30 a.m.

The event includes games, crafts and pictures with the Eggstravaganza Bunny. A candy hunt is also planned from 11 to 11:15 a.m., for ages 2 to 12. Residents can bring a basket for candy gathering, but bags will be available at the event.

Following the Eggstravaganza, the Downtown Campbell Business Association is sponsoring the Bunnies and Bonnets Parade at 12 p.m. The parade will begin at Railway and Campbell avenues and end at Third Street by Stack's Restaurant. The DCBA will also be handing out free balloons.

    Los Gatos Creek public meeting

The Campbell Public Works Department, the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department and the Santa Clara Valley Water District Authority are holding a second community meeting April 3, 12-1 p.m., at the American Legion Post 99, 1344 Dell Ave.

For those unable to attend the afternoon meeting, an evening meeting is also scheduled for April 3, 7-8 p.m., at the Campbell Community Center, 1 W. Campbell Ave., Room E-42.

The public is invited to review and comment on the first draft of the Los Gatos Creek County Park Master Plan.

    Leigh High School DUI campaign

Leigh High School, 5210 Leigh Ave., will be staging "Every 15 Minutes," an anti-drunk-driving program April 2-3.

The program will simulate a "crash scene" on the school's athletic field, which will be viewed by the entire school.

Real students acting as drunk-driving victims will be transported to Valley Medical Center, where they will be pronounced "dead." The students will be processed at the county morgue, and parents will be asked to come down and identify their children. Santa Clara County Medical Examiner Greg Schmunk, whose daughter attends Leigh High School, will be participating in the event.

The students responsible for the accident will be questioned by the police, and then handcuffed and taken to jail. On the second day of the event, a "memorial service" will be held for the students who "died."

The purpose of the campaign is to educate students about the consequences of drunk driving and the people it can affect.

    Gomes Park

Gomes Park, located at the intersection of Alice and Winchester avenues, received renovation approval by the Campbell City Council on March 19.

The park, which was originally designed and built in 1968, will get a new sign, irrigation, landscaping and a drinking fountain. The existing park benches will be replaced, and the old asphalt pathway will be removed and replaced with a tan concrete pathway. Large shrubs are also planned for the area along the fence to provide additional screening for the one residence that borders the park.

The project will cost $35,500 and is expected to begin in May. The city estimates the project will take two months to complete.

    Canine Corps debut

Dog owners can join the Campbell Canine Corps and march with their dogs in the Bunnies and Bonnet Parade in downtown Campbell on March 30 at 12 p.m.

The CCC will march a total of four blocks, starting at Railway and E. Campbell avenues.

The dogs and their owners are invited to dress up in bonnets and costumes.
