Campbell man arrested in child porn investigation
Campbell resident Michael Donovan, 29, was arrested March 18 on a charge of possessing child pornography, a misdemeanor. Donovan was questioned as a result of an FBI sting investigation into an extensive Internet child pornography ring, in which at least 90 people in more than 20 states have been charged.
The FBI's sting, called "Operation Candyman," has so far implicated children's baseball or Little League coaches, police and military officials and a school bus driver. Officials said the probe has uncovered 7,000 members of a child pornography email group, including 2,400 members outside the United States.
More arrests are expected in the coming weeks, according to FBI reports.
Donovan's activities have not been connected to Operation Candyman, according to Capt. Russ Patterson of the Campbell Police Department. He was arrested after child pornography was found in his home.
CPD officials received a call from FBI officials asking them to assist in the operation, Campbell Police Chief Dave Gullo said. "We were operating on the FBI's behalf when they asked us to go out [to the suspect's] house and follow up on their ongoing investigation. We found him in possession of pornographic material and arrested him. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail."
Chief Gullo added that Donovan was cooperative and didn't resist arrest.
