    Talk of the Town

    By Sarah Gaffney

    Q. Business is booming in downtown Campbell. Rumor has it that Stoddards Brewery, a billiards hall and a new Kaiser clinic are coming to town. What should downtown planners add to the mix to make Campbell a cooler place? Follow-up: If you could start a new business, what would it be?

    (asked in downtown Campbell)

    A. There needs to be a club thing going on, some place where bands could play. It would be really cool on the strip here. It seems like that's the one thing that's missing. It would be really nice to get a place like the Cactus Club in downtown San Jose. Your own biz? I'd want to do something in the music industry. I'd love to have my own recording label. That would be really cool.

    A. Before we bring more stores into Campbell, we need more parking. At night people are circling the blocks for parking spaces because the streets are full. The one thing I do see lacking is a quick place to eat lunch. New venture? A bookstore. Something like a Barnes and Noble, I like that kind of atmosphere. I don't see how you'd make any money though. People just like sitting in those chairs and reading books without ever buying them.

    Body Piercer

    A. Campbell needs some tattoo shops. And places where young kids can hang out and not have to go into San Jose or all the way up to San Francisco to have some fun. But it needs to be something more than just clubs. Your place? A body piercing shop. A lot of people are getting pierced and in Campbell the only place to get pierced is at Gothic where I work. It would be cool to have my own shop one day.

    Tiffany Altham Tiffeny Altham
    Barista

    A. More places for bands to play. It seems like the only places we have around here are bars. There should be more high school age places to go . . . more underage clubs and even clubs for overaged kids to go to. I don't drink so I don't want to go to a bar to listen to music. Dream Biz? A daycare center. I want to be a teacher . . . but I'd go to Costa Rica or Mexico, somewhere other than the United States where good teachers are really needed.
