Cat killing article was well written

Thank you very much for the well written March 20 article in The Campbell Reporter about my cat, Max. The article made a big difference in the way that my neighbor and the owner of the dogs, Dave SanAugustin, responded to the situation.

He wrote me a nice letter describing in full detail the extent to which he has gone to secure his yard. I will check with Animal Control and see if its officials completed the check-off that Dave said they would. He also contributed $150 to my daughter's horse savings fund. I wrote back to him and thanked him for taking responsibility for securing his yard and let him know that we accepted his apology.

Once again, thank you for the article and for your attention to this matter.

    Happy B-day Campbell

I just wanted to send my best wishes to my hometown of Campbell on its 50th birthday. I spent my first 19 years on this earth as a resident of Campbell and graduated from Campbell High School in 1974. I have lived in East Tennessee for 26 years and I am always proud to say I am from Campbell, California.

    Don't stereotype day laborers, workers

I certainly did not appreciate Philip and Kimberley Anderson's insinuation in the March 27 Campbell Reporter's story about the thief who stole the car that day workers who stood outside looking for work on Hillsdale and Leigh avenues could cause concern.

These days workers are only responsible for keeping not only Campbell, but all of Santa Clara County looking nice and neat.

Doing heavy construction manually, pick and shovel, trimming shrubs, trees, mowing lawns, in the heat and cold of the day. About the person that took the car that was left unattended, was he a day worker or a local?

Her certainly wasn't looking for work. He was intoxicated! The Andersons are also concerned that this incident is symptomatic of a bigger problem, which they worry is related to the opening of the new Home Depot on Hillsdale and Leigh avenues. Can it be foreseen? Is a person guilty on suspicion? Is a person guilty of a criminal act before being committed?

It is a rightful shame that a racist community can keep honest, law-abiding persons, from doing an honest day's work.

I have lived in Campbell for more than 50 years. I have occasionally hired day workers and have been very satisfied with their work performance.

I thank God that I'm not in a situation which would require me to stand on the corner of a street looking for work.

Student says, 'And E is for education'

Measure E did not pass. The West Valley-Mission Community College District was asking for a little assistance from the community by way of Measure E.

Voting "yes" would have enabled the district to build new classrooms and upgrade and repair old ones. It would have also brought much of the 35-year-old school up to state and federal standards. At a recent West Valley-Mission Community College District Board of Trustees meeting, this issue came to the forefront in a laughable manner. Several members of the Saratoga Homeowners Association, in their revelry over Measure E, proclaimed: "See, the voters have spoken and they don't support you or your colleges."

Wrong! The majority of voters and community members did support the district. In fact, 51 percent of them supported it. I'm not a rocket scientist or a political science major, but I do believe that constitutes a majority. At least, I think that's how it works in this country. It's laughable to bend the truth to serve the selfish interest of the minority who would hide the fact that the majority of voters were in support of Measure E.

Saratoga Homeowners Association got what they wanted, so there's no need to disseminate misinformation. Originally I had congratulatory tidings. However after last week's disgrace of degenerate behavior, I have only this to say: Shame on you. Yes, shame for placing more importance on property values and portfolios than on education and the future.

I say again, shame, shame, for actively working to hoard your prosperity while inhibiting the opportunity of others to be prosperous. Yes, that's right, shame, shame for not understanding that for many students, West Valley and Mission colleges are the last and only hope they have.

I would still like to say congratulations, and since the Saratoga Homeowners Association won't accept it, I say it to those in support of Measure E. Congratulations and praise to you for understanding that education is the surest way by which we advance as a society. I praise you for being enlightened enough to understand that giving the West Valley-Mission Community College District the resources it needs would elevate the caliber of education. In turn, I praise you for understanding that better education makes better workers and better citizens who are then better able to contribute back to their communities--all of our communities.

    Corrections

In the March 27 issue of The Campbell Reporter , the story "Campbell's Golden Anniversary" incorrectly stated that Martin Shadle was Kathryn (Shadle) Wood and Sarah (Shadle) Benzel's father. He was the women's grandfather.

Jim Ramoni, the program manager for In-Home Supportive Services, was incorrectly identified in the Seniors column in the April 3 issue of the The Campbell Reporter.
