    Talk of the Town

    By Sarah Gaffney

    Q. A light rail station is being proposed for downtown Campbell. How likely are you to hop on board the trolley? Follow-up: What's your most memorable public transit experience?

(asked at the Vasona light rail meeting)

    Karen Joseph
    Self-employed salesperson

Probably not very likely unless I wanted to go to downtown San Jose because, parking in downtown is so difficult. Otherwise, with my work, light rail doesn't go where I want to go. I definitely support it because other people use it and get out of my way. Memorable ride? Taking the train to San Francisco when I was small. It wasn't easy to get into San Francisco, so doing the train for about an hour was a great thing.

    George Baker
    Retired engineer

I would probably be a passenger every time I go to a baseball game up in Oakland. What I do now is drive to the end of BART in Fremont. If we had light rail, I'd take it to whatever connection they may eventually have to BART. Happy ride? I lived here when I was a little boy and they had street cars and electric trains in this valley. Taking the electric train to Congress Springs in Saratoga, people would treat it like an excursion. Picnics were big in those days.

    Uvonne Nabulsi
    Office manager

I work just a little ways from where I live so I wouldn't have any real need to use it. My boys used it for years to get into downtown from South San Jose. At some point, we all have to start using mass transit. Great train? When I was a child, I took a train from Georgia to Illinois. It was exciting. It was about 800 miles. I was from a small town, and it was just really exciting to go so far away on a train. And I'd never been on a train before.

    Alan Anderson
    Corporate officer

I would have no reason to use it. It's going to displace my business on Winchester. It's doing away with the property that my business is on ... something I've worked for for 25 years, they're going to come in and take it away. No, I'm not for it. They're taking away my life. Vivid memories? I have none. I've never used public transportation. I've been on a train on occasion, but nothing exciting. I have no answer to that one.
