    Looking for former football all-stars

It was the summer of 1974 when a football game called the Santa Clara County All-Star Bowl debuted on the turf at San Jose State's Spartan Stadium.

    It was only the beginning.

Since that time, it has grown to become a summer classic for high school football all-stars, and the event, now known as the Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star Football Game, returns this summer for its 25th anniversary game.

To celebrate the event, game organizers--the Almaden Valley Rotary Club--invite all former all-star players and coaches to attend this year's game, set for Friday, July 23, at Spartan Stadium.

For information on the anniversary game, and for former players and coaches to reserve their place at the event, write to All-Star Events, P.O. Box 20933, San Jose (95160), or send a fax to 268-2960.

    Roller hockey

Roller hockey league registration is under way for youngsters in the 8-and-under, 10-and-under and 14-and-under divisions and for juniors in the 18-and-under division at the in-line sports hockey center.

There are also adult beginner and intermediate leagues and women's league competition.

For more information, call 1-800-462-5233 or 739-6100.

    Football signups

It's time to start thinking about the fall Pop Warner Football season, and youngsters ages 8-15 living in Los Gatos, Saratoga and Campbell can sign up as either football players or cheerleaders.

Players must have been born between Aug. 1, 1983, and July 31, 1991, and 15-year-old players must be under 125 pounds.

Coaches for football and cheerleading are also needed.

For more information, e-mail MA48@prodigy.net or call 270-1443.

Drop-in basketball for women is held each Monday, 7-10 p.m., at the Campbell Recreation Center's small gym, 1 West Campbell Ave. The cost is $3 per player. For more information, call 866-2105.

    Speed City Invitational
