Carpet Club opens new store at San Tomas Road

    By Michelle C. Crowe

One of last week's new business mentions has officially opened. On April 26, Carpet Club welcomed customers for the first time into the approximately 7,000-square-foot store at 1581 W. Campbell Ave. at San Tomas Aquino Road (the former VideoManiacs location).

While the latest store in the Carpet Club family is the second one in the Campbell area (the other one is located at 1600 Saratoga Ave. in the Westgate Mall), the original store has been firmly established in Santa Clara at 2490 Lafayette (across from Home Depot) for nearly 14 years.

"We have a bit more material in stock than most stores out there, so that we're able to help people out who are in a big rush," says Carpet Club Acting Manager Craig McAbee. "For example, if it's a rental home being turned over, people don't have a lot of time to wait for the ordering and delivery of product. At some stores, that can take up to six weeks. Providing you like something we already have in stock, we can usually provide you with it in just a couple of days."

McAbee credits that speed to the trio of stores' volume. "We get excellent prices from our vendors, which we can pass on to our customers. We're not always the best price, but we usually are," McAbee adds. "I think the biggest benefit here at Carpet Club is we can get your floor done pretty darn quick. Even if we have to order something, it usually takes only two weeks to get it ordered, delivered and installed."

The shop's hardwood and hard-surface installers are individually licensed and bonded, reports McAbee. In addition to carpeting, hardwood, laminate flooring and vinyl, the store also offers new hard-surface products, such as Dura Stone.

"We're pretty excited about this store--it's got a nice showroom, plus stocking space. While we plan to look for more locations, we don't know for sure if we'll be opening more in this area here, or possibly go up the peninsula," McAbee says. Although the Carpet Club name certainly sounds chain-worthy, so far the total number of stores is three, and all are located in Santa Clara County. But if the present demand for home remodeling and real estate resales continues, don't be surprised to read that a fourth store ends up here, too.
