Fierro will oversee city's General Plan

Sharon Fierro was named Campbell's community development director last week. In December, the former senior planner moved into the interim position left vacant by former CDD Steve Piasecki, who is now the CDD in Cupertino. The city will make a full recruitment effort to fill the senior planner position, which will take between three to four months.

"I'm really excited," Fierro says of her new appointment. "I love working for the city of Campbell and I understand who they are, and how they want to continue to develop. It's going to be a really good thing for the both of us."

Fierro, who joined Campbell 2 1/2 years ago, will oversee the city's General Plan and says she will do everything she can to preserve the city's charm and character, as many residents voiced in the Strategic Plan.

"Campbell is and wants to continue to be a small town," she says.

The first meeting that day is 3 to 4 p.m. at Hazelwood School, located at 775 Waldo Road in Campbell. The last meeting is 7 to 8 p.m. at Rosemary School, at 401 W. Hamilton Ave. in Campbell. CUSD's McCann to step down

Richard McCann recently announced his plans to step down as deputy superintendent of administrative services at the Campbell Union School District. His retirement will be effective in June.

After serving as assistant superintendent of business services in his hometown of Nashua, N.H., McCann arrived in Campbell in 1993. Since joining the district, McCann has overseen school construction and improvement projects made possible by the 1994 passage of Measure D, a local multimillion-dollar bond. He also helped manage centralized services that included food services,

transportation, lease agreements, budget/accounting, and maintenance and operations. McCann, 58, plans to move back east, and perhaps do some consulting.

"I've got mixed emotions," says McCann of his departure. "There's so many nice people who work here. It's been an exciting time in Campbell."
