Tipping is not always necessary

    Chem Free kids OK

I have been volunteering at the Chemical Free Zone since I was 16. I am now 19 and still every Friday I am there. Through that time we have continually been bashed, from churches at first, then from youth who didn't want a church-run club around, and then when all that died out and things seemed to be going OK, then the city suddenly took a turn for the worse. While the cameras are rolling, we're on TV and the newspapers are writing stories, we have the city and police's full support. The second that one person complains and raises an issue, the second we call the police to help us with an unruly kid, in that second everything changes, and our support is no more. We rely fully on the support from the kids, which is the reason for TCFZ. The reason I volunteer, the reason we all help out, is to keep these kids off the street and to keep them safe and to provide a place where they can enjoy themselves. Violence is not what we promote, and if people shut us down, then I will be afraid for the kids who have had protection for two and a half years. And the city of Campbell should be too.
