    Talk of the Town

    By Laurie Phillips

    Q. If money was not a concern, what would you spend your time doing? Follow-up: Do you think people in this area are able to spend their time the way they choose?

    (Asked at the Pruneyard)

Going back to school, I guess. If money wasn't an issue, why not? Most people only work to pay their bills, anyway. Leisurely life? I think so. They'd have to change some expenses, of course, but it's possible. A lot of people can do it when they're young and going to school.

Doing exactly the same stuff I do now--having a good time and hanging out with my friends. Cash concerns? Yeah, I don't think it [the presence of money] should change anything that much. Life will go on just the same. Not everyone knows what they want to do.

Traveling; it's fun. There's a wonderful world out there to go see, but it's so expensive. I'd go anywhere except Asia. I'd rather go to Europe and Africa, see Kenya. And I hear South Africa is supposed to be beautiful. Time travails? No. Well, I'm sure people might have that availability around here, but most of us have to work to live.

Well, I'm retired now. I spend a lot of time walking in the hills, going to San Francisco for the day, doing whatever I feel like doing when I get up. I worked 32 years, and now my life is mine. Freedom in flexibility? It certainly depends on your job. A lot of people can telecommute, spend time at home. It's doable here.
