    Larsen a champ

Westmont senior Eric Larsen fired a cool 74, then beat a Lincoln golfer on the first hole of a playoff round to win the Blossom Valley Athletic League individual title last week.

Larsen carded a three-over par 74 at the Santa Teresa Golf Course, good for a first-place tie with a golfer from Lincoln. The two advanced to a playoff for the title, and Larsen won it all on the first hole.

    Morris, Jama star

Prospect's Nevin Morris finished second and teammate Abrahin Jama was third at the Santa Teresa Division tennis finals last week.

Morris, a senior, drew a first-round bye before beating a Santa Teresa foe 6-4, 6-3 to move along in the tourney. He beat Valley Christian in the semifinals, but lost 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 to VC in the finals.

Jama, just a sophomore, won his first two matches before losing in the semis.

Jama opened with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 win over Willow Glen's Cyrus Yazdani, then beat Silver Creek 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. He lost to a Valley foe in the semifinals, but beat another VC player in the consolation finals 6-0, 6-2 to clinch third overall.

Prospect seniors Donald Gagliasso and Russel Oritz teamed for an 0-6, 6-4, 6-3 doubles win over Jose Ocampo and Huy Nguyen of Willow Glen, but they lost their second match 6-2, 6-4 to a team from Silver Creek.

Brian Roh and Tim Ogawa, a couple of juniors from Prospect, lost 6-1, 6-0 to Willow Glen juniors Chris Lyons and Minh Phan in the first round.

    Warriors fall

The Westmont boys volleyball team lost in the first round of the CCS tournament, losing in three straight games to Woodside Priory 15-9, 15-13, 15-5.

Still, it was quite a year for the Warriors. Westmont rolled to a 20-6 record in an outstanding 2000 performance. The Warriors were champions in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL with a 12-0 record and pounded Pioneer 15-2, 15-12, 15-8 in the final match of the regular season.

In other action in the division, Prospect rolled past Branham before beating Gunderson to improve to 9-3 in the division. The Panthers, 14-8 for the year, were led to the 15-1, 15-2, 15-3 win over the Grizzlies by Chad Holan and David Najima.
