Relief in sight for Westmont High football field
Athletic teams, band members and recreationists will--ahem--be relieved with the installation of modular restrooms at Westmont High School's football field.
With the help of the Metropolitan office of YMCA of the Santa Clara Valley and in conjunction with the WHS boosters club, Westmont Bowl will see the addition of a steel frame, modular restroom facility that will have two 12-by-20-foot men's and women's restrooms. The project, which costs an estimated $68,000, will be financed partly through a grant from the Valley Project, which has pledged $60,000.
Electrical, plumbing and sewage work should begin in July, and the final work should be completed by September, according to Robert Hermanson, vice president of financial development at the YMCA and a Westmont parent.

Bone marrow donor sought for 3-year-old
One look at Luke Ydens and no one would suspect the 3-year-old has an aggressive form of cancer called acute myelogenous leukemia. After a 22-month period of remission, Luke's cancer has returned. According to his doctors, the only cure for Luke is a bone marrow transplant. But, since Luke's mother, Irene, is Filipino, and her husband, Phil, is Dutch Indonesian, finding a donor with a racial makeup like Luke's is a difficult prospect. Sadly, Luke's younger brothers--Jeremy, 2, and 1-month-old Daniel--are a match for each other but not for Luke.
With the cooperation of the American Red Cross and its Asian American Donor Program, interested parties can take a blood test and will be placed on the National Bone Marrow Registry. Since there are only an estimated 209,821 Asian donors among 3,613,408, Irene and her family are asking for more Asians--especially Filipinos--to help their cause.
To schedule an appointment for a blood test, contact the local chapter of the American Red Cross at 577-1000 or the Asian American Donor Program at 1-800-59-DONOR. To make a tax-deductible donation to the Ydens family, send checks payable to the Asian American Donor Program, 7700 Edgewater Dr., Suite 265, Oakland, 94621. Be sure to write "Luke Ydens" in the memo portion of the check.
