    Little League Memories

Twenty years ago, Campbell's team reached the World Series

In 1976, Campbell, the United States Little League champs, lost 10-3 to Tokyo in the Little League World Series final. Three years later, on Aug. 25, they were in the series again, U.S. champions who had won 15 consecutive games to vie for the elusive title. With the score tied 1-1, the game went into extra innings, much to the delight of the estimated 30,000 gathered at Williamsport, Pa., and the other 6 million who were watching the television broadcast in Taiwan. Then, with two outs in the eighth, Taiwan's Ho Chia-Mou hit a single, driving in Chang-Kuen for the game-winning run. It was Taiwan's seventh LLWS title in nine years. No Campbell team since has qualified for the series. Twenty years later, former coach Bill Wright and his players still have fond memories of the game.   More
