    Quicksilver Volleyball

    The Quicksilver Volleyball Club will hold tryouts for the 2000 season on Dec. 4 for girls ages 12-18 on new courts at Independence High School. The tryout fee is $20 and players should come with kneepads and expect to work hard.

    Quicksilver plans to field at least one team in each age division (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18).

    PAL Baseball

    The San Jose PAL is accepting signups for the 2000 season for players ages 7-12. New players must provide a birth certificate. For more information, call Officer Kevin White at 408.272.9725, ext. 102.

    Run to the Far Side

    The California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco will host the Run to the Far Side, a 10K and 5K run/walk set for Nov. 28, 8:30 a.m. The registration deadline is Nov. 19 and the cost if $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers.     Baseball Camp

    Stanford assistant baseball coach Mark O'Brien will host the annual Stanford baseball camps for players ages 12-18 on the Stanford campus.

    The camps will feature hitting and defense, with a special camp for pitchers ages 13-18. Camps will be held Nov. 26-28, Dec. 20-22 and Dec. 27-29 at Sunken Diamond, and the cost is $110 per session.

    Roller Hockey

    The Southwest YMCA will host Saturday morning roller hockey leagues for beginner and intermediate players ages 6-11. League play begins Jan. 8, and there will be one weeknight practice each week. The cost is $80, plus program membership. For more information, call 408.370.1877, ext. 19.

    Pitching Program

    An eight-week pitching program for baseball players ages 9-12 will run Tuesday evenings, through Dec. 14, in the gym at West Valley Community College in Saratoga.

    The program teaches fundamentals, arm care and defensive skills. Players 9-10 attend at 7 p.m., players 11-12 at 8 p.m.
