After serving as a hostess for three years, Campbell resident Julie Oreglia decided she wanted to strut her stuff as a model at this year's scholarship benefit fashion show staged by Presentation High School students.
As a hostess, the 17-year-old helped out at the luncheon show, but she had to wait until her senior year for the privilege of modeling designer outfits at the dinner show, where she'll be wearing La Coste and Cache.
Seniors who apply to model in Presentation's fashion show are chosen based on their high school activities and community service. Julie is on the water polo and swim teams and is part of the school's peer ministry, which organizes retreats, Masses and prayer services.
"It's been awesome," she says of the ministry group. "I've been surrounded by women with the same morals and goals as me. I've made some of my best friends through that club."
Julie says participating in the fashion show has further broadened her social circle.
"I've met more people through it because you're dealing with girls you might not talk to regularly," she added.
Campbell resident Taylor Numann will also model in the fashion show, scheduled for April 15 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. This year's show, "Friday Night Fever," will feature Presentation seniors, faculty, board members, alumni and senior boys from area high schools. The models will be wearing fashions from Club Monaco, Eddie Bauer, Talbot's, Tommy Bahama, Eli Thomas Menswear, Indigo Palms, Lucky Brand and Trudy's.
A highlight of the show is the grand finale, when fathers escort their daughters down the runway. Last year's show raised almost $90,000 for Presentation's scholarship fund.
Tickets for the luncheon show are $80 per person. Dinner tickets are $135 per person. The evening event includes dancing to music provided by King Raffi, a DJ at KEZR-106.5 FM.
