By Moryt Milo

This year's race for Campbell City Council chalks up as the most expensive in the city's history. Total campaign contributions for the five candidates, when factoring in personal loans, topped $95,000.

The campaign contribution year to date tallies filed with the Campbell City Clerk's office from Oct. 1 through Oct. 21 show Evan Low's campaign received a total of $35, 231, Tom Francois received $21,090, Dan Furtado received $16,267 including a $2,500 personal loan, Jane Kennedy received $16,199 including a $3,000 personal loan and Margie Mitchell received $8,367.

All the candidates received contributions from non-Campbell businesses, individuals and organizations, including the California Real Estate Political Action Committee that contributed $500 each to Kennedy, Francois and Furtado, and Mitchell, who received $500 from Democratic Activists for Women Now. For these candidates, the contributions received during this 20-day period ranged between $1,500 and $3,000.

Low fared far better, bringing in $8,274 during this same period. Of note, in Low's list of contributors were funds from individuals and organizations throughout the United States including Miami; Las Vegas; Tucson, Ariz.; Austin, Texas; and Washington, D.C. Of the total contributions Low received during this accounting period, one donation of $100 was a contribution from a Campbell resident. Contributions received within the state included individuals from Vacaville, Hillsborough, San Francisco and Beverly Hills.

All the candidates meet the campaign filing requirement deadlines on a timely basis as stated under California law.
