Voters can opt to cast
early weekend ballots

Santa Clara County voters can cast their ballots early for the November General Election at the Registrar of Voters' Office, 1555 Berger Drive, Building 2 in San Jose off Old Oakland Road, on Nov. 4 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. or Nov. 5 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The early voting is designed to help voters who cannot make it to the polls on Nov. 7

Early voters can cast their ballots using either touch screen voting machines or paper optical scan ballots. Santa Clara County's touch screen voting machines, manufactured by Sequoia Voting Systems, meet all state and federal requirements. The voting machines are equipped with paper audit trail printers, which allow voters to review a paper record copy of their ballots and verify that their choices are recorded accurately.

Missing man found
outside of hospital

The Campbell police had an unexpected turn of good luck when a missing person, Michael Weitzel, was located at Valley Medical Center.

Weitzel had been missing from his residential care facility on Sobrato Drive since around 10 a.m. on Oct. 25. He suffers from dementia and requires medication on a regular basis to avoid seizures.

A Campbell police officer spotted Weitzel approximately two hours later walking around outside Valley Medical Center, while she was handing another issue. Weitzel was medically stable, and the police were able to transport him back to his care facility.

Campbell Library has wireless access

The Campbell Library now boasts free high-speed wireless Internet access. The service will enable patrons to access the Internet with their own laptop computers, PDAs and other mobile devices in the library "Wi-Fi" zone.

"This is the type of enhanced customer service we seek to deliver to our communities," Santa Clara County librarian Melinda Cervantes said.

The addition of wireless access should lessen the wait for the library's 17 desktop computers that are used to browse the Internet. The Friends of the Library are providing wireless Internet access in the community room, which is downstairs in the nonfiction section, Campbell Library supervisor Terri Lehan said.

The Santa Clara County Library system is providing wireless Internet access to all seven libraries in the system, including Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Milpitas, Morgan Hill and Saratoga.

The Campbell Library, 77 Harrison Ave., is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, closed Sundays and Mondays. For more information, call 408.866.7887.

Redding Road parcel
OK'd for three homes

The Campbell Planning Commission on Oct. 24 approved a zoning change for three residential units located on 304, 308 and 310 Redding Road.

The project site is currently developed with two-single family homes, with one additional single-family home under construction. The existing homes range from 1,800 to 2,300 square feet. The new residence under construction is estimated to be 1,700 square feet.

The properties, owned by Frank Onzo, are on the south side of Redding Road, just west of Bascom Avenue.

The .76-acre property originally housed a one-story residence constructed in 1937. In April, Onzo split the parcel into two lots and developed the property with two homes. He then indicated to the planning department that he wanted a third home on the property. This would require a change in zoning to planned development.
