Vermy's two goals spark Del Mar to field hockey win over Berkeley

Sticks were flying last week for Blossom Valley Athletic League girls field hockey teams, as each school hits the home stretch before the Nov. 9 Central Coast Section playoffs.
The Santa Teresa Division saw tight scoring games. On Oct. 24, Lynbrook battled Cupertino to a 2-2 tie.
The Los Altos Eagles flew high this week and earned two victories. On Oct. 24, the Eagles stole a 2-1 victory from the Leigh Longhorns at Leigh, and on Oct. 26 turned in a home field shutout over Lynbrook. The Lynbrook is now at 5-5-2 in division play, while Los Altos improved to 11-2-1 overall and 11-0-1 in division competition.
All was not lost for Leigh, who on Oct. 26 registered a 0-0 push at Westmont. The Longhorns division record now stands at 2-7-3, and Westmont's is 3-5-4.
On Oct. 26, Live Oak swept Prospect for a 3-0 victory at home. The Acorns improved to 9-4-2 overall and 7-3-2 in division play, and Prospect is now 4-10-1 overall and 3-8-1 in Santa Teresa standings.
Presentation and Cupertino played Oct. 26 to a 1-1 tie at Cupertino.
The West Valley Division featured a number of exciting games as well. Homestead earned two shutouts, taking a 2-0 victory from Del Mar on Oct. 25 and topping Branham 2-0 on Oct. 27. The Mustangs improved to 8-2-1 in division play.
Del Mar, however, redeemed itself on Oct. 27 with a 4-0 home turf shutout over Berkeley. The Dons saw two goals from Christina Vermy and one each from Laurel Hilt and Emily Holm. Elissa Emoto, Courtney Pollak, Katherine Peterson and Anna Myers all registered assists in the victory. Del Mar's record is now 8-2-1 in division play.
