Ace Hardware plans to move into Campbell by the summer

Campbell residents in need of the basic nuts and bolts of home repair are in luck, as an Ace Hardware store will be moving into the city.
The family-style hardware store will be located San Tomas Plaza on the corner of San Tomas Aquino Road and W. Campbell Avenue, making it the fourth major hardware store in the area. It is scheduled to open by early summer.
The Campbell Planning Commission on Feb. 13 unanimously approved a conditional use permit for Ace Hardware at the site that once housed Perennial Fitness. The building, which was constructed in 1972, is shared with a Dollar Tree and a proposed martial arts studio. No expansion is being proposed.
The store will provide Campbell customers with a wide selection of paint, cleaning supplies, housewares, electrical materials, hardware and fasteners and lawn and garden products.
"I'm glad see a good old-fashioned hardware store move into the area," Campbell Planning Commission Bob Roseberry said.
Ace Hardware has been in business since 1924, and has more than 4,600 stores in all 50 states and in 70 countries. The only other Ace Hardware store in the area is located in Los Gatos.
"I'm tickled to see this coming to Campbell. I can't go to the hardware store just once; I always have to go a couple of times because I forget things. So I'm excited to see it coming in and being closer to my house," Commissioner Tom Francois said.
The planning department does not expect a problem with noise, since the store does not sell lumber or heavy building materials.
"We feel that Ace Hardware would be an excellent addition to Campbell's retail community, both for the sales tax revenue and for the consumer brand recognition," owner Ali Azimian said in a letter to the Campbell Planning Commission.
Azimian expects that retail sales will start at $1.9 million, slowly growing to $3.9 million over a 10-year period.
The business will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday though Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
