World's religions to be presented in Cupertino
By MELISSA MATCHAK
On Jan. 21, Cupertino will join the world in celebrating World Religion Day. The city's fifth annual presentation of several of the world's religions will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Quinlan Community Center.
According to Patrick Marion, coordinator for the event, World Religion Day was established by the United Nations with the purpose of establishing interfaith understanding. The event in Cupertino is being sponsored by the Baha'i community, and will be a presentation of a glimpse of Christian, Mormon, Sikh, Buddhist, Hindu, Islam, Baha'i and Jewish religious practices. Each group representing their faith will present a reading from their sacred text, chant, movement, song or other demonstration, depending on the faith and culture being represented. The 45-minute presentation will be followed by refreshments.
