City to hold garage sale on Sept. 7

Time to clean out the garage? Why not make a few bucks in the process? The deadline is Sept. 7 for Cupertino residents to register for the citywide garage sale.

Rabid garage sale junkies from all over the county will be converging on Cupertino on Sept. 22 and 23, looking to buy your unwanted or unused clutter.

Hazardous waste disposal will be available Aug. 25

While cleaning up around the home in preparation for the citywide garage sale, those who need to dispose of any hazardous waste products can do so this weekend.

A free hazardous waste collection will take place on Aug. 25 in Cupertino. Anyone interested should call 408.299.7300 immediately to register and make an appointment.

Memorial Park the site of Moon Festival

The third annual Moon Festival is sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank, in Cupertino's Memorial Park, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 29 and 30. It will feature a chance for someone to be the "husband" of Mayor Sandra James for the day. There will also be 160 Tai Ji Men dizi (disciples) from Taiwan performing cultural exhibitions including music, dance and martial arts demonstrations.

James will be dressed in a traditional Chinese wedding dress and hoisted around in a carriage. All potential grooms must purchase a ticket for $100, and the mayor will toss a ribbon bouquet-- the receiver becoming her "husband" for the day. For more information about the Moon Festival, contact Lucia Wu at 408.865.6688.
