    CCS serves up auction and barbecue on Sept. 8

    Cupertino Community Services invites residents of Cupertino to attend the 17th annual CCS Barbecue, Sept. 8 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Blackberry Farm, located at 21975 San Fernando Ave. in Cupertino. The event will include food, music, carnival games and a bounce house for kids, live and silent auctions for adults, and a chance to win a new car in the annual CCS raffle.

    Cost to attend the event is $30 for adults and $10 for children aged 12 and under. Tickets are available at the CCS office, the Chamber of Commerce or by calling 408.255.8033.

    Senior Center holds free dance performance

    Since its establishment in 1994, the Fantasia Performing Arts Center has provided instruction in Chinese traditional dances and the incorporation of Chinese opera movements into some of the dances to form a unique combination of dance and martial arts, under the direction of Carol Ma.

    The Fantasia Performing Arts Center will perform a free dance program Aug. 23 from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at the Cupertino Senior Center, 21251 Stevens Creek Blvd. Call 408.777.3150 for more information.

    San Jose Symphony holds gala at the Flint Center

    The San Jose Symphony will celebrate the opening of its arts season with popular cellist Yo-Yo Ma during a gala celebration Sept. 8 at De Anza College's Flint Center, 21250 Stevens Creek Bl., Cupertino. The theme of the festive event is The Silk Road and highlights several of the countries along the ancient Asian trade route.

    Tickets for the one-night event are $330 per person and include seating for the concert, a cocktail reception beginning at 5 p.m. followed by dinner, the concert, dessert, dancing and a live auction. Premium tickets are available for $600 and include photographs with Yo-Yo Ma, the best gala and concert seating, premium wines and a gala program listing. Tickets for the 8:30 p.m. gala concert only are $65, $85 or $100 per person.
