Cupertino holds annual city-wide garage sale
Cupertino's sixth annual city-wide garage sale will be held on Sept. 22-23. The deadline for residents to sign up to participate in the sale is Sept. 7. There is no registration fee and participants keep all profits from their sales, held individually at homes or on private property.
Sellers must register with the city and have their addresses included in the garage sale list. A list of sale addresses and a map will be available on the city's website starting Sept. 18 and will be distributed at local
7-Eleven stores, coffeehouses and city facilities on the same date.
Residents can register online at www.cuperti no.org or by calling 408.777.3337 to request a registration form and kit.
Rotary presents 'Western Elegance'
The Rotary Club of Cupertino will hos the second annual "Western Elegance" benefit dinner Sept. 9 to raise money for wheelchair purchases.
The event is open to the public and will take place at the Regnart Road home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Randall. Tickets are $150 each, and reservations should be made before Aug. 29.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a horse reigning exhibition, followed by a selection of fine wines and a "Best of the West" barbecue dinner.
The local club is sponsoring the event in conjunction with Rotary International and the Wheelchair Foundation Project, which purchases wheelchairs in high volumes at low prices. The foundation will match all donations made to the event. Couples who attend the event andspend $300 on their tickets will actually cover the cost of four wheelchairs valued at $2,000.
The wheelchairs are delivered to children and adults around the world who have no other means of mobility. A group from the club is traveling to Texcoco, Mexico, in early November to present 50 wheelchairs to those in need.
Those interested in attending the benefit or donating to the wheelchair project should call Jim Walker at 408.252.5780.
