First annual safety fair in Cupertino brings out the parents and children

Cupertino resident Lauryn Kistner, 9, is fitted for a new, free bicycle helmet by Bob Hopkins, left, and Vivian Lock, both with the De Anza Optimist Club. The helmets were donations from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department and given out at a booth run by the Cupertino and De Anza Optimist Clubs. Approximately 150-200 helmets were given out at the fair.
Bonnie Gradstein, coordinator of Safekids 'Firearms Safety Committee', shows off a gun lock that can be used for semi-automatics, revolvers, shotguns and rifles. The locks are being given out for free and are available at any sheriff substation in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.
Amarjeet Rai, center, a volunteer child passenger safety technician for the San Jose Police Department, goes over the correct way of tethering down a child seat with Jeff and Brigitte Patrignani of Santa Clara. The Patrignani's were one of the few family's that had their child seat installed properly before having it inspected at the Child Safety Fair.
Firefighter/Engineer Lesley Hodges leads a Kids S.A.F.E. House tour. The S.A.F.E. House is one of two trailers in the county that has been specially modifed for teaching children safety and fire precaution.
