Propane storage tank approved for unincorporated area
A 30,000-gallon steel tank for propane storage was approved Sept. 6 by the county of Santa Clara Planning Office. The location of the tank is at the site of the Sunnyvale Rod and Gun Club, 11998 Stevens Canyon Road--an unincorporated area of Cupertino. The tank will store propane in bulk for subsequent distribution to residences and commercial sites in the vicinity of Stevens Canyon and Montebello roads.
The project also included a 30,000-gallon water storage tank for fire fighting purposes. The propane tank will be located on the opposite side of the gun club's property, away from any possible stray bullets from the shooting range. An 80,000-pound semi-truck will deliver propane to the site twice a month during the summer and four times a month during the winter. The same "bobtail" distribution trucks will deliver propane to individual residences after loading product from the site.
YMCA offers some suggestions to help children cope
The YMCA of Santa Clara offered the following suggestions to help children cope with the tragic events that occurred Sept. 11.
In times of crisis it is important to keep to your routine as much as you can and try to engage in normal activities.
Make your children feel safe and secure by spending time together as a family and maintaining strong community ties.
Discuss what happened and share your feelings, if appropriate for their age, and ask your children how they feel about the issue. Younger children may just need a hug.
Draw on your own spiritual strength as you remember the victims and their families.
Keep up with the news and continue to discuss the topic, remembering that children's fears will not go away overnight.
