The Cupertino CourierLettersThe company sounds good in that cesspool Almost the first thing I look for in your paper is the DeCinzo cartoon, and often I wondered how a small-town newspaper could attract such a man of world-class talent and keen mind. Reader R. A. Blais wishes you dragged him into a cesspool. If you follow this advice, take me along. I would love the company.
Jerry Smith Outraged over cartoon attacking Steven Haze We are longtime residents of Cupertino and also longtime readers of The Courier. Until your Sept. 17 issue, we respected the integrity of your newspaper and found it a positive force in our community. We were outraged at the cartoon attacking Steven Haze. First of all, the cartoon serves no useful purpose since it has nothing to do with social or political issues. Secondly, it is morally irresponsible. It does not instruct or enlighten; it only hurts a very fine person. We have known Mr. Haze for years and have witnessed his many acts of community service. No matter what The Courier says: Actions speak louder than words. Mr. Haze is a concerned citizen; we would all be better off with more citizens like him. Finally, the cartoon says volumes about the persons who conceived it and allowed it to be published. We believe it says nothing about Mr. Haze except that he has been unfairly treated. We are outraged readers.
