By Pam Marino

City Council candidate John Statton is leading the pack in the campaign fundraising race for the Nov. 4 election.

Statton raised $5,425 before June 30, and then another $5,649 between July 1 and Sept. 20, for a total of $11,074 so far this year. Subtracting expenses, Statton's campaign financial statement showed $6,116.19 in an ending cash balance.

Statton got a $50 contribution from fellow candidate Andrea Harris. He also attracted contributions from outgoing councilwoman Lauralee Sorensen, as well as Dick and Kay Lohmiller; Sorensen and Katherine Lohmiller also donated money to candidate Sandy James.

James raised the second largest amount--$5,639.99--between July 1 and Sept. 20. She had no contributions prior to June 30. She has spent more than half of her contributions, leaving her with an ending balance of $2,289.67.

James received $100 contributions from Darryl and Dorothy Stow, both active in community groups, as well as former Cupertino Mayor Barbara Koppel and Cupertino National Bank founder Don Allen.

Incumbent Don Burnett loaned himself $5,000 and received $225 in contributions between July 1 and Sept. 20. He had a beginning cash balance of $165, and only spent $400, leaving him with $4,990.

Harris loaned herself $2,500, received $450 in monetary contributions and $83 in nonmonetary contributions, for a total of $3033 given to her campaign between July 1 and Sept. 20. She spent only $531, leaving $2,419, according to her statement.

Steven Haze received no contributions, but loaned himself $1,000. He spent a mere $77.50, leaving $922.50 in his campaign fund.

The deadline for campaign fundraising is Oct. 21. After that date no contributions are allowed for Cupertino candidates.
