The Cupertino CourierLettersWhat's wrong with the Cupertino Post Office? I find it most amazing that Acting Postmaster Carol-Ann Ackerman believes that the postal service in Cupertino is improving and that customer complaints are down (The Courier, Sept. 24). Perhaps complaints are down because customers cannot directly reach the Post Office by phone: an 800 central number takes a message. Our mail service had temporarily improved with the arrival of our terrific carrier, Russ, who managed to have our mail delivered by no later than 4 p.m. each day. But once again our carrier has been replaced with "fill" people and our delivery time has returned again to the 6 p.m.-or-later schedule. What is the problem with the Cupertino Post Office? In the past 15 years the service has steadily declined. If there were an alternative I most certainly would opt for it. It would be great not only to have our mail delivered to the correct address but to have it arrive before the dinner hour.
C.A. Lafranconi How about a cartoon on Mayor Bautista? De Cinzo, your cartoonist, threw one at poor Steve Haze a couple of weeks ago, and he's not even been mayor yet and had a chance to do us damage. Let's have one of Mayor John Bautista, suitcase in hand, saying, "I voted on the water bill and no one complained about it. Why shouldn't I vote on the diocese property development? True, the same firm that is bidding on that proposal chose me in the lottery for a new house in Menlo Park, but that's a coincidence. And besides, I still have a vested interest in Cupertino. I'm not moving to Menlo Park for another six months." I see representatives from the O'Brien Group, bidders on the diocese property, cheering in the background and yelling, "Right on, John." And Mr. Burt Viskovich is standing closeby holding up a victory sign that says, "We do what's best for Cupertino, always."
