The Cupertino CourierSports BriefsDons pull out win Kara Grondzik (Leland) knocked in a first-half goal off an assist from Jodie Walters (Fremont) to lead the De Anza Community College women's soccer team to a thrilling 1-0 victory over rival West Valley College last week. The Lady Dons improved to 3-0-1 in the Coast Conference with the win. De Anza is 5-0-1 for the year. Meanwhile, the De Anza men blanked Hartnell 2-0 and Las Positas 1-0 to jump to 4-0-1 for the year. Spartan Hall of Fame Classic San Jose State University baseball stars of the past Rich Guardino (1974-77) and Chris Pedretti (1978-79) will be the inductees during ceremonies at the 12th annual Spartan Baseball Hall of Fame Golf Classic Oct. 24 at the Santa Clara Golf Course. The tourney begins with registration at 11 a.m., a putting contest at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The cost for the best ball scramble is $140 and includes a cart, green fees, tee prizes, lunch and dinner.
