    Teen Commission taking applications

    Cupertino City Council members unanimously approved the formation of a Teen Commission at its council meeting Sept. 17. The deadline is Oct. 5 for applications, which are now being accepted by the parks and recreation department.

    Applicants must be enrolled in grades seven to 12 and must be residents of Cupertino. Information pamphlets and applications can be picked up at the Quinlan Community Center, located at 10185 N. Stelling St. For additional information, contact Christine Hanel at the Cupertino Parks and Recreation Department at 408.777.3120.

    Cupertino holds a community congress

    The city of Cupertino is encouraging all residents to attend "Voices and Visions V," a community congress that allows people to voice their opinions to help shape the direction for the present and future of the city.

    Participants will work in discussion groups and also get the chance to interact with city council members to talk about their concerns. Seating is on a first come, first served basis. Those wanting to attend should contact Laura at 408.777.3331, or email her at laural@cupertino.org.

    New Cupertino fire station opens Oct. 4

    The Santa Clara County Fire Department will hold a grand opening and dedication ceremony Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. for its new Cupertino Fire Station No. 1, built next to the site of the old station. The station is located at 20215 Stevens Creek Blvd. Refreshments will also be served.

    Construction on the new site began in June 1999 and was completed this September. For information, contact Captain Dennis Johnsen at 408.341.4448 or 800.800.1793.
