The Cupertino CourierWho sold his wife's car at the garage sale?By Linda Walker and Barbara Koppel The Trailblazer Race on Oct. 12 benefits the Friends of Stevens Creek Trail, headquartered at McClellan Ranch. The event, a 5K and 10K running race and a 3-mile walk, with special events for children, is being held at Charleston Park (just outside the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View) at 8:30 a.m. The chairman of the event is Steve Patt, the president of the group is Steven Haze and a key volunteer is Lauren Lechner, another Cupertino resident. Let's show our support for the Trailblazers. For more info call the hotline at 415/903-6067 or 408/255-5780. . . . Another way to volunteer and "see the action" at Flint is to be an usher, ticket taker or program giver at Flint Center. Some lucky locals doing their job are Betty Mann, Marge West, Ginny Madlem, and Ray and Barbara Shannon. What a deal!. . . Garage sale mania!! Was that you buying or selling all that stuff (junk)? Jan and Gordon Frolich sold bricks and stones (beats throwing them at each other). They had good stuff. We heard a rumor that someone's wife was gone for the day and hubby sold her car, refrigerator and TV. So how was your day? Do you think this guy, who's in retail, will fess up? The big winner of the block garage sale was organizer Noel Eberhardt and the block was Krzich Place. Some of the folks participating were Jim and Sharon Vanderwall, Mary Jane Matthews, Stimson and Helen Ho, and Stan and Marion Couwet. . . . Has anybody seen El Niño? Are you prepared?. . . We miss the signs--the City Council and school board campaigns are on, but who would know? Without the signs it's hard to know who the candidates are. Watch for information on the local TV station and in The Courier and check out the dance card. . . . Join Don Lang in the De Anza Lions' annual Charity Golf Tournament at Boulder Creek Golf and Country Club on Saturday, Oct. 25. Play this popular course on a lovely autumn day and help support charitable community projects. To sponsor or play, call Jim at 248-6336. . . . Active Learning in the Arts, led by Doris Harry, is so successful in Sunnyvale it is expanding to Cupertino and will include classes and lessons for children and adults. Tony Harry will be the new business administrator. The Cupertino Music School and Concert will be held on Oct. 18 at 8 p.m. at the Union Church on Stevens Creek. The 'kickoff' concert will feature talented guitarist and teacher Rico Stover... For more info call Tony at 255-1303. . . . Robert Gallo, the son of longtime residents Joseph and Maria Gallo, and his new bride, Lisa, were recently wed in Santa Rosa. Some of the locals traveling north for the beautiful ceremony were Stan and Linda Poncetta, Pat and Pauahi Sheehy, Skip and Cookie Tarantino, Rene and Vince Donohue, Bill, Ruth and Doris Stewart and Mike and Vivian Hurley. Robert and Lisa took the time to write a personal note to each guest about what their role was in the new Gallos' lives. At a specific time during their ceremony everyone read their note. There were tears and laughter--what a beautiful idea. . . . Copertino, Italy, the city we were named after, was damaged by the recent earthquake and specifically St. Copertino's tomb. Just thought you'd like to know. . . . Sandy and Ron Griffin returned from her 35th high school reunion in Yuba City. Now we know how old she is. . . . How did you like the new Oktoberfest location? We thought it was great! You started at the De Anza flea market, where Carol and Jon Garliepp were selling their wares, then wandered across to Memorial Park to eat sausage, drink beer and spend money. Seen doing it all (and some even worked) were Oktoberfest Chair Kathy Nellis, Liz Mulford, Martin Bishop, Michael, Bridgette and Liam Galane, Barbara Rogers, Ann Brown, Barbara and Dana Grover and millions more. If you missed the flea market and Oktoberfest, we hope you got to the Tournament of Bands Parade and all the rest of the competition. Great job, kids!!!. . . . Leadership Cupertino is starting Oct. 9. There are two slots left; if you are interested or would like more information on scholarships call Barbara Koppel at 725-0930. . . . Excuse us, we need a vacation, we've worked so hard for the big bucks. We'll see you in four weeks. . . . Keep in touch. Phone 725-0930 or 252-1288, fax 446-5402 or 252-5780, email Cupscoop@aol.com or catch the Courier's Web site.
