The Cupertino CourierNews BriefsCupertino suffers seven burglaries in 18 days The Sheriff's Department has stepped up both car and foot patrols in Cupertino since a rash of residential burglaries began last month. A detective said at least two burglaries in the Miller Avenue/Bollinger Road area are believed to be related. Two more burglaries in the Portal Park area are also possibly related, although not to the Miller/Bollinger burglaries. There have also been incidents in the Rainbow Drive/Stelling Road area, on either side of the railroad tracks. Between Sept. 12 and Sept. 30, there were at least seven residential burglaries and one attempted burglary in Cupertino. Those occurred on N. Stelling Road, Las Ondas Way, Pennington Drive, Paradise Drive, Cranberry Drive, West Acres Drive, Gardena Drive and Colby Avenue. Earlier in the month there were five reported incidents, including the two on Miller Avenue. Homes have been entered, sometimes through unlocked windows and sliding glass doors, and ransacked. Credit cards, cash and jewelry are usually the items stolen. Det. Luther Pugh said foot patrols have been added to the Portal Park area and the area around the railroad tracks. Deputies believe the suspects have been watching homes, waiting for residents to leave, before striking. A police sketch of a suspect in the Miller/Bollinger burglaries is being prepared for release to the public. As of last week, there were no suspects indicated in the other burglaries. Anyone with any possible information about the burglaries is encouraged to call Pugh at 867-9715.
