Lacrosse Club

The Tomahawks Lacrosse Club will hold a registration and informational meeting on Oct. 21, 7:15 p.m., in room C3 at Jordan Middle School, 750 N. California, Palo Alto.

The club is open to all students in grades 4-12 living on the peninsula. Players of all ages are needed, and no experience is necessary.

Practice begins in January, with games played from March to May. For more information, call 1-650/962-1455.

Dons unbeaten

The De Anza Community College men's and women's soccer teams remain unbeaten in the Coast Conference season after both posted victories last week.

Kara Grondzik knocked in a pair of goals to lead the De Anza women to a 3-0 win over Las Positas. The Dons are 7-0-1 in the conference and 9-0-1 for the year.

The De Anza men blanked Skyline 2-0 and Ohlone 3-0 to move to 9-0-1 in the conference.

In other De Anza sports action, the football team lost 59-6 to Mendocino, and the women's volleyball team dropped a 15-6, 16-14, 15-9 nod to Foothill.

Vikes win

Chad Purcell blasted over for a pair of touchdowns to lead the West Valley Community College football team to a tight 20-12 win over Yuba last weekend. The win helped the Vikings improve to 3-0 in conference play and to 3-2 for the year.

Purcell, a former Monta Vista star, scored on 1-yard runs in the first and fourth periods. Jason Belligan also scored on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Matt Ryan. Brian Schweitzerhof (Saratoga) booted a pair of extra points in the win.

West Valley is idle this week before visiting Monterey Peninsula College on Oct. 25, 1 p.m.
