    Janssen at Penn

    Heather Janssen, a graduate of Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, is a member of the women's volleyball team at the University of Pennsylvania.

    Janssen, a sophomore, hammered a career-high 17 kills and hit .467 for the Quakers in a recent 3-1 win over Princeton.

    The former Matador has 28 blocks for the year, including two five-block matches, and is currently averaging 2.53 kills and 0.93 blocks per game. She was named to the all-tournament team at the Marriott Dayton Classic in early September after nailing 29 kills and six blocks in the tourney.

    Janssen has helped the Quakers get off to a 7-3 start this season.

    Crumlin vaults to win

    Anita Crumlin, 10, of Cupertino nailed a 9.1 in the vault to finish first in the event at the Head Over Heels gymnastics meet recently. Crumlin, who competes for Gold Star Gymnastics, recorded the top vault mark this season for level 5 gymnasts in Northern California, according to the rankings released on Sept. 28.

    Time for Club Yahoo! volleyball teams

    Volleyball tryouts and clinics for Club Yahoo! will be held Nov. 4 and 11 for girls ages 13-17, at San Jose State University under the direction of Club Yahoo! coach Gary Mano, who is also a coach for the Spartans.

    Tryouts will be held Nov. 4, 8:30 a.m., and Nov. 11, 1 p.m., for girls ages 13-14, and Nov. 4, 11:30 a.m., and Nov. 11, 3 p.m., for girls ages 16-17.
