The Cupertino CourierBusiness picks up for auto burglarsThere has been a rash of auto burglaries in Cupertino the last few weeks, the Sheriff's Department reported. Seven cars were hit the night of Sunday, Oct. 19, in the Regnart Road area. One family on Regnart Road found both cars broken into and numerous items, including stereo equipment, taken. The same family had a car cover stolen just a few days before. Other cars were broken into the same night on Santa Teresa Drive, Lindy Lane and Terrace Drive. On Thursday, Oct. 23, three cars were broken into on Baywood Drive on the eastern side of town. Earlier this month there were several burglaries at apartment complexes on Valley Green Drive. One car was broken into on Myrtlewood Drive on another night. Sheriff's deputies had no suspects as of last Friday, Sgt. Jack Smith said. He said burglars normally hit in the early morning on quiet, dark streets. They will hit two or three cars on one block, then move down a couple of blocks to strike again. It takes only about three minutes per car. "They're in and out of the cars in no time," Smith said. Smith advised residents to always park their cars in lighted areas and to make sure they are locked. If people hear noises in the night, they should check them out. --Pam Marino
