The Cupertino CourierSports BriefsFootball on Halloween There won't be much time for trick-or-treating for the football players at Monta Vista this Halloween night. The Matadors will be too busy playing football. The Mats visit Fremont at Diesner Field for a 7:30 p.m. game on Oct. 31--both teams still looking for their first win of the year in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League. Monta Vista is coming off a tough loss to unbeaten Palo Alto, and Fremont dropped a tight 10-6 decision to Saratoga. The Mats are now 1-6 for the year and the Firebirds are 4-3. Homestead and Cupertino, meanwhile, will play afternoon games on Halloween. The Mustangs, 1-2 in the De Anza Division and 2-5 for the year, will visit Palo Alto on Oct. 31, 3:15 p.m. Homestead lost 37-8 to Los Gatos last week despite a big night by Jason Woods. The speedy tailback raced for 110 yards and a touchdown to lead Homestead to 244 yards of total offense. Homestead also dominated the football in the game, running 61 offensive plays to just 40 for the Wildcats. Senior quarterback Andy Myers completed seven of 14 passes for 71 yards, including an 18-yarder to Woods. Cupertino will be on the road Friday to visit Mountain View for a 3 p.m. El Camino Division game. The Pioneers are 1-3 in the division and 1-6 for the year after losing to Lynbrook 27-0 last week. Senior quarterback Kevin Boehm tossed for 220 yards and three touchdowns, and Robbie Crum scampered for 100 yards on the ground in the win for the Vikings. Lynbrook is 1-3 in league play and 1-6 for the year.
